Re-engineering the service blueprint of an intellectual property law firm
Transitioning from Lotus Notes to a modern IP law system — delivering 2.3× efficiency gains, £1M+ in additional billable work and a 1.5× increase in average case size.
Murgitroyd is a leading intellectual property law firm that recognised the need for comprehensive digital transformation to address operational inefficiencies and modernise its case management and service delivery. Reliance on outdated systems, particularly Lotus Notes, was hindering workflow efficiency, automation and process standardisation. Murgitroyd engaged Palladium to lead the transition to a modern IP law system and fundamentally re-engineer its critical business processes.
THE CHALLENGE
Murgitroyd’s operational model had been built around legacy systems that were no longer fit for purpose. Lotus Notes created rigidity across workflows, limited automation and made standardisation across teams difficult. The firm’s competitive position in a dynamic legal market was being eroded by the time and cost of manual processes, and its attorneys lacked the pricing tools needed for consistent, accurate quoting.
OUR APPROACH
Palladium led the end-to-end transition from Lotus Notes to a state-of-the-art IP law system tailored to Murgitroyd’s specific business needs. The re-engineering programme covered the quote-to-invoice process, case management, document management and centralised information access. A new web-based Murgitroyd Quote Portal was introduced, giving attorneys more accurate and consistent pricing tools. Automation was embedded throughout, with analytics capability built in to support ongoing performance management.
